Wrong-way driver accused of reaching 115 mph on Oil Well Road arrested in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

A man was arrested after a Collier County deputy reportedly caught him driving 100+ mph on the wrong side of the road near Oil Well Road and Artherex Commerce Drive.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. Sunday, a deputy saw a vehicle reach speeds of 115 mph and pursued it down Oil Well Rd.

After stopping, the driver, identified as Gianny Guzman Quintero, 23, stated he wasn't aware of which direction he was driving due to extreme exhaustion coming off a 16-hour shift from bartending at the Dunes of Naples, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Guzman Quintero told the deputy he was not under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when asked, and the deputy noted that they did not observe any signs of intoxication.

According to the report, the deputy said no one was driving on that section of the road when Guzman Quintero was there. The deputy warned Guzman Quintero that it "could have had a different outcome," given there were multiple cars passing shortly after he was stopped.

Guzman Quintero was arrested under Florida's super speeder law (moving traffic violation - operating a vehicle 100+ mph, threatening a person). He also received a traffic citation for driving on the wrong side of a divided highway.
