New details emerge in Arcadia double-homicide investigation

ARCADIA, Fla. (WINK)—WINK News has learned a family member found Barbara Bates murdered in the bedroom of her apartment.

Arcadia Police say the 77-year-old grandmother was shot twice through her bedroom window by Eric Robinson. Bates was on the phone with a Hardee County 911 operator when shot. 

According to Arcadia Police, Bates called 911 to report the dispute and watched Robinson shoot and killed Tanika Summers.

Robinson’s arrest report says police arrive to the Jacaranda Trail apartments around 9:30 a.m. after multiple reports of a shooting. Police found Summers and searched her home for additional victims.

Arcadia Police tell WINK News their units weren’t notified of Bates’ death until around 1 p.m. when Madalyn Brown, Bates' granddaughter found the body and called 911. 

Police say all 911 calls are coordinated through the sheriff’s office; Arcadia Police learned of the 911 call after Bates had been found.

Arcadia Police said officers responded to a shooting at the Jacaranda Trail apartment complex just after 9 a.m. on April 17. 

Officers said they found a woman, identified as Tanika Summers, was shot multiple times after a "domestic incident.”

Police later arrested 45-year-old Eric Devon Robinson nearby. Robinson faces several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, one-count of kidnapping, and one-count of obstructing justice.

Officers said they discovered a second woman who was shot and killed at the apartment complex after 1 p.m. on April 17.
