Vigil held for Tanika Summers, who was killed in double homicide at Arcadia apartment complex

ARCADIA, Fla. —

A candlelight vigil was held for Tanika Summers on Wednesday in Arcadia at the home she was supposed to move into before she was killed.

More than 200 people gathered to celebrate Summers' life, wrapping the front yard. Attendees shared stories about her, sang, and consoled one another.

People brought balloons and flowers, placing them under a photo of Summers that was displayed in front of a podium.

Police said Summers was shot and killed by Eric Robinson, who is also accused of killing another woman in the same complex, Barbara Bates, while Bates was on the phone with 911.

Bates' granddaughter said Bates was "a friendly soul and a guiding light."

Summers' cousin, Glen Gordon, spoke at the vigil, nearly breaking down in tears.

"She was a giver, never saw the bad," Gordon said. "Her daughter is going to need family more than ever."

Robinson pleaded not guilty and has a court hearing scheduled for Thursday.
