3 arrested, accused of setting stolen vehicle on fire in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

The Cape Coral Police Department arrested three people accused of stealing a vehicle and then setting it on fire.

Police say they responded on June 22, 2025, to the 2800 block of Northwest Fourth Place for a reported vehicle theft. The police department says a Honda Civic was taken from a home and that a second vehicle had been broken into. Investigators say the key fob had been left inside the stolen vehicle.

After officers responded to a vehicle fire on June 23, 2025, near Chiquita Boulevard and Jacaranda Parkway, investigators said the burning vehicle was the stolen Honda Civic from the day before.

On June 27, 2025, a police officer conducting traffic enforcement in northwest Cape Coral pulled over a speeding vehicle for a traffic stop. During the stop, police searched the vehicle and found a stolen handgun. The police department says Landin Lee Ahrens, Jaydin Chase Kempton and Ahren M. Edelman were inside the vehicle.

Investigating further led to a search warrant for Kempton's phone. Detectives found video evidence showing Ahrens and Edelman setting the stolen vehicle on fire, while Kempton recorded what happened. Police say the suspects were identified through investigative techniques.

Police arrested the three suspects and charged them as follows:

• Ahrens was charged with arson (second degree)
• Edelman was charged with arson (second degree) and grand theft motor vehicle
• Kempton was charged with arson (second degree), motor vehicle theft, burglary of a motor vehicle and petit theft
