FWC hosts invasive freshwater fish roundup event

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is hosting the 2026 Southwest Florida Invasive Freshwater Fish Roundup from April 24-26.

The FWC said that invasive fish negatively impact Florida's native fish and wildlife and cause damage that is costly to repair and threatens human health and safety.

Most of the invasive fish were introduced into Florida's waterways via an unwanted pet release or escapes from aquaculture ponds.

FWC is encouraging anglers to sign up in groups of one to four, boat out on popular freshwater spots and target invasive species that threaten Florida's ecosystems. There is also a chance to win prizes for the event.

The event will conclude with the weigh-in at the Bass Pro Shop located at 10040 Gulf Center Drive in Fort Myers.
