Wilson Pigott Bridge reopens after 10-day closure

ALVA, Fla. —

The Wilson Pigott Bridge reopened Thursday afternoon after a 10-day closure, following upgrades to replace its aging steel deck and ensure long-term safety and functionality.

"Usually these things take longer than we anticipate, so this is great news," said Edda Howard of Babcock Ranch.

Crews installed heavy steel panels, completed detailed welding and tested the drawbridge before reopening it to traffic. This is just a temporary fix as FDOT is planning a full bridge replacement, currently scheduled for 2028.

"It's going to be a headache for a lot of people. I'll plan my time," Howard said.

Ivette Cauceglia, who uses the bridge daily to commute to work, said she is prepared to adjust her schedule for future closures. "It's just adjustment. But again, got to have patience, and you just work around it because it's progress and we need it," she said.

FDOT confirmed that boaters will not be impacted by the bridge replacement project. For now, the Wilson Pigott Bridge is back open and ready for use.
