4 armed robbery suspects nabbed after deputies use grappler on getaway SUV in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

An armed robbery near 43rd Street West and Sunshine Boulevard North in Lehigh Acres ended with Lee County deputies arresting four suspects.

Deputies responded to the area on Thursday night at approximately 7:26 p.m. According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the victim said he arranged a backpack sale when he was approached by a suspect in a black hoodie who entered his vehicle.

The victim told deputies that the suspect then pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim's property.

A black Range Rover SUV arrived shortly after, and two more masked suspects came out and stole multiple items while the driver stayed in the SUV, LCSO said.

The suspects fled the scene and fired gunshots toward the victim during their escape. The sheriff's office said the victim was not injured and followed the vehicle long enough to catch the license plate while calling 911.

LCSO's aviation team quickly located the suspected vehicle, and patrol units on the ground were able to use a grappler to stop the vehicle at Orange River Blvd and Ellis Rd.

Deputies detained Wesley Castor, 17, J'Darius Rayrell Clermont, 18, Jontrell Demond Jones, 19, and Charlie Savion Sturgis, 19.

Detectives were able to recover the victim's stolen property as well as other evidence from the vehicle.

Jones, Clermont and Sturgis are facing a charge of robbery with a firearm, and Castor is facing a charge of accessory after the fact.

LCSO said all four suspects were taken to the Lee County Jail.
