'He's shooting at me!': 911 caller went silent before she was found dead in Arcadia double murder

ARCADIA, Fla. —

A 911 call of a woman pleading for help during a shooting was released Friday. The caller was one of two women who were shot and killed at an apartment complex in Arcadia on April 17.

According to the 911 call provided by the Hardee County Sheriff's Office, Barbara Bates called at 9:15 a.m. During the call, she said "some guy here in the parking lot over here at the Jacaranda Apartments just shot his girlfriend," before she went silent immediately after saying "Oh my God, he's shooting at me!"

The whole incident happened within moments and she stopped talking 18 seconds after the call began.

Bates was never was able to share her address with the dispatcher. The information was passed along to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office, and she was found dead about four hours later.

Bates' granddaughter found her dead while the investigation was taking place.

The Second Murder

According to the Arcadia Police Department, Eric Devon Robinson, 45, is accused of killing Bates and Tanika Summers at the Jacaranda Trail Apartments.

According to investigators, Summers’ daughter returned home from work to find her mother being held at knifepoint by Robinson. She reportedly grabbed a gun, but Robinson is accused of disarming her and using the weapon to shoot Summers. Then, he is accused of shooting Bates while she called 911.

Robinson is facing two counts of first-degree murder and eight other charges. He appeared in court Thursday for the first time from a video call at the DeSoto County Jail. The judge ruled that Robinson will be held without bond, and he is scheduled to return to court on June 1 for his arraignment.
