Suspect in Arcadia double murder held without bond

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. —

Eric Robinson, accused of killing two women in Arcadia, appeared in court for the first time since the shootings, facing two counts of first-degree murder and eight other charges.

Robinson, dressed in a yellow jumpsuit, showed no emotion during the video call from DeSoto County Jail. No family or friends were present in court as the judge read the charges against him. Robinson’s public defender requested that he remain in jail until trial.

Robinson is accused of fatally shooting Tanika Summers Friday at the Jacaranda Trail Apartments. Reports indicate that Summers’ daughter returned home from work to find her mother being held at knifepoint by Robinson. She reportedly grabbed a gun, but Robinson is accused of disarming her and using the weapon to shoot Summers.

Robinson is also accused of killing Barbara Bates, another woman at the apartment complex, who was dialing 911 at the time.

Friends and family held a memorial for Summers last night at the Habitat for Humanity home she was set to move into with her daughter this week.

"You ain’t gonna dim her light, her light will always be here. She will always shine bright. She has so many people who truly love her. She will never be forgotten, and she will live on through her siblings," Summers’ sister Leticia Summers said.

The judge ruled that Robinson will be held without bond for the two murders. He is scheduled to return to court on June 1 for his arraignment.
