Cape Coral man dies after his motorcycle strikes debris in Highlands County

HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. —

A 65-year-old motorcyclist died after losing control of his motorcycle in Highlands County, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say that the motorcyclist was traveling north on the left lane of US Highway 27, south of Skipper Road on Friday morning. They add he collided with debris on the highway and lost control of his bike.

The motorcycle entered the median and hit a sewer grate and traffic marker. Troopers say the 65-year-old became separated from his bike. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
