Fishermen's Village sale could bring marina repairs back to Punta Gorda

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (WINK)—Fishermen's Village is under contract and the deal could close soon.

The 22-acre waterfront property, including all business leases and 142 boat slips, is being purchased by a local development group. The new ownership is already working through permits to get the marina rebuilt.

David Jolly and his family used to visit Fishermen's Village at least once a month, but their visits became less frequent after the docks were destroyed through the hurricanes. He hopes the new owners will restore what made the village special.

"We love them to repair the dock so we can come by boat, shop, eat, and we'd come here more frequently," Jolly said.

"This is a wonderful place the village. We love coming here," he said.

Scott and Kim Merle say it's the little things that keep them coming back to the waterfront destination. They appreciate the restaurants, boutiques and views of Charlotte Harbor.

"But they just need to update a few things. But it's, it's good the way it is," the Merles said.

Ashley Bloom, the broker's managing partner, told Gulfshore Business that the new ownership will enhance the village's role as a community gathering place. For longtime visitors, the hope is that the next chapter preserves the character that draws people to the waterfront.

"We like the quaint town," Jolly said.

The sale is expected to close sometime this summer.
