A blank canvas for SWFL: Inside Bonita’s newest art studio

BONITA, Fla. — A brand new art studio is opening its doors in Bonita Springs, giving Southwest Florida creatives a space to learn, unwind and connect.

Summer DeSalvo, known for her vibrant murals across the region including work near LoKey Hat Co. and the Legacy Tower, is now bringing that same energy indoors with Summer’s Art Studio.

“There’s nothing like this in the area, so I wanted to create my own space,” DeSalvo said.

The studio offers a wide range of classes designed for all skill levels. From acrylic and oil painting to jewelry making, mixed media and even apron design, each class brings a different theme and creative experience. The schedule rotates throughout the week, giving adults, teens and children plenty of opportunities to participate.

But the space is more than just a classroom. DeSalvo said she intentionally designed the studio to feel welcoming and relaxed. Guests can stop in during open studio hours for “free paint,” where they can create at their own pace without instruction. There are cozy corners for students to do homework, unwind or simply spend time surrounded by art.

“Art is healing. It’s a form of expression,” DeSalvo said. “You can take classes here, but the goal of this space is to create a center for art."

A dedicated kids' room allows younger artists to explore their creativity in their own space, while still giving parents the option to stay nearby. DeSalvo said it’s all about balancing independence and connection for families.

The studio also doubles as a curated retail space. Every item, from art supplies to gifts and clothing sourced from around the world, has been handpicked by DeSalvo. The colorful shop reflects the playful and creative atmosphere she hopes visitors feel the moment they walk in.

In addition to classes and shopping, the studio is working to inspire the next generation of creators through a monthly youth entrepreneurship program. Each month, a local teen is selected to showcase and sell their products inside the studio, giving them real-world business experience and exposure.

Local artists are also featured throughout the space, with artwork displayed gallery-style along the walls, further highlighting the region’s growing creative community.

DeSalvo said her goal is simple: create a place where anyone, regardless of experience, feels comfortable picking up a paintbrush.
