NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — Former Collier County Commissioner Donna Fiala passed away on Thursday, according to her family.
Fiala, who was elected in 2000, was the longest-serving Collier County Commissioner in modern history. She was also the longest-serving female commissioner in Florida history.
Fiala's family said they have been deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support since her passing. Because of her decades of service to the community, they understand many people want to attend Tuesday's funeral at Lely Presbyterian Church, but seating is limited to family and close friends.
Lely Presbyterian will livestream the service, which can be accessed online. The family noted the link may not be active until just before the service begins.
The livestream will also be broadcast at Donna Fiala Eagle Lakes Park Community Center and at the North Collier Regional Park Exhibit Hall for those who wish to gather with others to remember Fiala.
Collier County is planning a community-wide celebration of Fiala's life at a later date, to which all are welcome. Details will be shared once finalized.
"We thank you for your understanding and for holding Donna and her family in your hearts," the family said in a statement.
