Lehigh Acres street takeover leads to 2 arrests, 2 more wanted

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK)—A dangerous street takeover at a busy Lehigh Acres intersection led to arrests, but Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for help identifying two people who took off before deputies arrived.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says the takeover happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Joel and Bell boulevards. Calls came in for a street takeover at the busy intersection.

An arrest report says deputies saw more than a dozen ATVs and street bikes doing donuts, going the wrong way in traffic, and almost causing several crashes. Deputies arrested 19-year-old Isaiah Coleman and 23-year-old Marcus Dale for a slew of charges, including reckless driving, fleeing and eluding police, and resisting officers.

But deputies say more than just two people were part of this street takeover. Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers says two men are persons of interest in the street takeover.

One man was wearing a ski mask and a grey shirt. The other had long locks and a grey zip-up sweatshirt.

Neighbors in the area have serious concerns about what they see on Joel Boulevard.

"In a 45 or 40, 45 miles per hour, I see 65, 80, and it's an everyday thing, because I'm right here on the corner, I see everything," Johnathan said. "So basically, the speed limit is not being controlled. It's just people doing what they want to do."

Vincent Saladino said the dirt bikes and four-wheelers need to go where they belong.

"The dirt bikes and the four wheelers need to go where the dirt bikes and four wheelers go, and not on the road," Saladino said.

Saladino said he doesn't believe they should be on the road at all because they don't obey the rules and drive too fast. He has a racecar but doesn't race on public roads.

Johnathan said someone is going to get hurt if kids continue riding in the road like that. He hopes authorities find the suspects and correct the situation.

"Just hope they find them and correct the situation, and hope they set an example and it doesn't happen again," Johnathan said.
