84-year-old man accused of pulling gun on victim following hit-and-run crash in Estero

ESTERO, Fla. —

A man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of a hit-and-run crash in Estero and pointing a gun at the victim.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to the intersection of Three Oaks Parkway and Estero Parkway at around 8:10 a.m. for reports of a hit-and-run crash.

Deputies spoke to the victim, who told them he had been traveling northbound on Three Oaks Parkway in the leftmost lane when an SUV entered the roadway from a side street and then abruptly changed lanes into his lane, crashing into the right side of his vehicle.

The SUV continued driving away, and the victim followed it until it stopped near Three Oaks Parkway, the report said. The victim then approached the SUV, hoping to exchange insurance information.

The driver of the SUV, identified as John Moss, 84, became irate and pulled out a gun, LCSO said. Moss then pointed the gun at the victim, threatening to shoot and kill him, according to the report.

The victim then showed deputies photos he had taken of the SUV and Moss holding the gun. Deputies used the photo of the SUV to locate Moss in a McDonald's parking lot along Vintage Commerce Drive.

Moss was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of a crash involving damage.
