Woman arrested after malnourished dog, snake found dead in Fort Myers apartment

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A woman was arrested in Fort Myers on Monday after a dead dog and a dead snake were found in her apartment.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, officers responded to an animal-related investigation at an apartment on Bellaria Way at around 8:36 p.m., with assistance from Lee County Domestic Animal Services and the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Upon entering the apartment, officers noticed a strong odor and unsanitary living conditions. Officers then located a dead dog locked inside a crate, FMPD said.

The dog showed clear signs of malnourishment, according to FMPD. There was no accessible food or clean water within reach, and the water present in the apartment was not fit for consumption.

The crate contained soiled bedding and extensive animal waste, indicating that the dog had been in those conditions for an extended period, FMPD said.

Officers also located a dead snake inside the apartment, which the owner, Celeste Jordan Hall, 29, admitted to neglecting, according to FMPD.

Hall was arrested and faces charges of two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and confinement of animals without sufficient food, water or exercise.
