Englewood bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash, driver arrested

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. (WINK) — A 33-year-old bicyclist died after being struck by a van that fled the scene in Englewood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on Tuesday night at San Casa Drive and 10th Street. A 2006 Ford E250 van was traveling southbound on San Casa Drive when it struck a bicyclist who was attempting to cross the road.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The direction the bicyclist was traveling remains under investigation.

After the crash, the van fled the scene with the bicycle lodged underneath it. Troopers located the van a short time later at a residential address on Michigan Avenue in Englewood and impounded it as evidence for forensic examination.

Troopers identified the driver as Christopher Lee Flinn of Englewood. He was arrested at the same address where the van was found and booked into the Charlotte County Jail on charges of leaving a crash scene involving death.

The crash remains under investigation.
