Busy Fort Myers Beach intersection to get upgraded traffic signals following damage from Hurricane Ian

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (WINK) — The Town of Fort Myers Beach said repairs will begin to the traffic signal at Old San Carlos Blvd. and Estero Blvd starting Monday.

The project marks a step forward in the island's continued recovery from Hurricane Ian. The is intended to fully restore and modernize one of Fort Myers Beach's busiest intersections.

The upgrades include new pedestrian signals, ADA-compliant ramps, updated lighting and upgraded technology. The design also features resiliency improvements, such as elevated electrical equipment, to better protect against future storms.

Work will take place overnight from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. to minimize daytime disruptions.

Drivers and pedestrians should expect some nighttime lane closures and use extra caution in the area.
