Englewood man accused of raping a teenage girl after giving her alcohol

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. —

An Englewood man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of giving a 17-year-old girl alcoholic beverages and raping her.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, around 3:30 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a sexual assault with injuries that had recently occurred in the 900 block of South Broadway.

Deputies conducted an investigation and determined that the suspect, Melchor Hernandez Alcaraz, 44, provided alcoholic beverages to the 17-year-old victim and forcibly had sex with her, CCSO said. Alcaraz confessed to the allegations, deputies said.

Alcaraz was arrested and faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated sexual battery on a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor by providing her alcohol.

CCSO said that Alcaraz entered the United States illegally and was placed on an ICE detainer.

“Here we are with yet another individual who couldn’t keep his hands off of a juvenile," Sheriff Bill Prummell said. "I am running out of ways to say how disgusting sex crimes are, especially when there is a child involved. To make it even worse, this individual is in the US illegally… for now, anyway. This should not have happened, and my heart goes out to the young lady and her family.”
