Fort Myers man appears in court after being accused of moving body in death investigation

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A man accused of disturbing a body at the center of a death investigation in Fort Myers made his first appearance in court Tuesday, as new details are revealed about his charges.

Fort Myers police say Robin Bowman, 62, was arrested in connection with a death investigation taking place in the 3000 block of Highland Avenue. Officers were called to the scene at around 7 a.m. Monday.

An unidentified body was found in a backyard, leaving neighbors shocked.

Later in the day on Monday, Bowman was arrested and faces a charge of disturbing a dead body. On Tuesday morning, Fort Myers police told Gulf Coast News that Bowman removed the body from inside the home and moved it outside the house. Bowman failed to report the body to law enforcement or a medical examiner, the Fort Myers Police Department said.

On Tuesday, Bowman made his first appearance in court, joining via a video call from jail.

The state requested that Bowman's bond be set at $50,000. The judge set a $20,000 bond on Bowman and ordered him to wear a GPS, court notes said.

Bowman asked the judge why the bond amount was so high, to which the judge replied that it was appropriate due to his prior history of arrests and because of the facts surrounding the case, according to court notes.
