Moore Haven teen becomes Florida's only basketball All-American

MOORE HAVEN, Fla. (WINK) — A 16-year-old basketball player is rewriting history and putting her small town on the map.

Sa'Nyree Myers, a junior at Moore Haven High School, was recently named the only All-American in Florida by MaxPreps. The recognition comes after Myers became the first player in Moore Haven history to reach 1,000 career points.

"The community loved it," Myers said. "Like to this day, I go out, and they still congratulate me, they still support me."

At just 5'6", Myers is defying expectations and putting up big numbers on the court. She has received over 100 college offers.

"I use it to my advantage," Myers said. "But, you know, I do what I can at my height. I love it. I wouldn't change it for nothing."

Myers led her team to an undefeated season and a district championship, marking the first time any sport at Moore Haven won a district title. Head Coach Jeff Gonzales said the achievement is monumental for the small community of about 2,000 people.

"A 2,000-person, low-economic pass over town, you know, that's huge for everyone," Gonzales said. "It's something that is inspirational for girls for years and years to look up to."

The All-American honor is a national award selected from approximately 400,000 players across the country.

"That's a national award that's out of like 400,000 players in the country to be the only one in Florida," Gonzales said. "It's just remarkable. I mean, I can't say enough every time you know you're gonna make me tear up."

Despite the accolades and attention, Myers remains focused on her impact beyond basketball.

"Remember me as somebody who, like, put Moore Haven on the map, but at the same time, remember me for the person I am and like and how much I impacted the community," Myers said.

Myers is set to announce her college decision on Friday.
