The remains of a 2- to 3-month-old Florida panther believed to have been stuck and killed by a vehicle were found on Monday on Everglades Boulevard South in Collier County.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the panther was found 120 yards south of 26th Avenue Southeast. This is the sixth dead panther reported in the state in 2026.
Vehicles are the primary cause of death for Florida panthers, and the FWC encourages drivers to slow down and observe speed limits, especially in panther zones in counties across South Florida, in areas where panthers are known to cross. Panther speed zones help the survival of the endangered Florida panther and protect drivers and passengers from injuries.
If you spot an injured, sick or dead panther, FWC asks you to report it as soon as possible to the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922). The reporting of injured or sick panthers and/or vehicle crashes involving panthers allows biologists to respond in a timely manner. Biologists can also gain valuable information by examining the remains.
