Naples Girl Scout dances her way to Gold Award

NAPLES, Fla. —

At the Bradford Square Retirement home in Naples, older adults step into the sounds of Sinatra and step out of their comfort zones.

"I wish I were a little better at it. I have a wonderful teacher," said one older adult.

That teacher is 16-year-old Angelica Roets.

Angelica has been a dancer for 13 years and a Girl Scout for 10. The person who inspired her to start all those years ago was her grandma.

"My nana loved dancing and music, and it really helped her rejuvenate even when her health wasn't the best," said Angelica.

When Angelica was deciding how to serve through the Girl Scouts, she did not miss a beat.

"They have so many interesting stories and a lot of good jokes, and it's just been really great," said Angelica.

By leading weekly tap dance lessons, Angelica won the Gold Award. It's the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn.

"I think any girl who's in Girl Scouts should achieve their Gold Award because it is one of the best and the most fun and meaningful," said Angelica.

As Angelica steps into her future, she reminds us that giving back is what helps us move forward.
