Naples leaders hold final hearing on e-bike safety regulations

NAPLES, Fla. —

Naples city leaders are holding their final public hearing on proposed regulations for e-bikes during their council meeting on Wednesday, aiming to enhance safety for pedestrians and riders.

Residents have voiced concerns about e-bikes in public spaces.

"E-bikes, I think, are very dangerous for people who walk on sidewalks," said David Armbruster, a Naples resident.

The proposal would prohibit e-bikes from sidewalks, parks, and shared trails. These are areas commonly used for walking, jogging, and relaxing.

Traditional bicycles, however, would still be allowed.

City officials have stated that e-bikes operate differently from traditional bikes, traveling at much higher speeds, which they say makes a significant difference in terms of safety.

The plan also addresses bike parking to keep paths clear for pedestrians and includes exceptions for individuals who rely on mobility devices.
