Collier County teacher faces felony drug charges after campus arrest

NAPLES, Fla. (WINK)—Collier County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested a Collier County Public School teacher on fentanyl and cocaine possession charges after narcotics were discovered inside his classroom at Lely High School.

Christopher D. Toukonen, 44, was taken into custody and booked into the Collier County jail on the felony charges after a mixture of fentanyl and cocaine was recovered from his backpack inside the classroom. He is also charged with possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

School administrators took action after being notified of suspected narcotics use by Toukonen while he was alone in the classroom with no students present. During a search of his backpack, school staff located suspected illegal narcotics and contacted the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Youth Relations Bureau deputies and Vice and Narcotics Bureau detectives responded immediately, investigated and interviewed Toukonen. He was taken into custody.

Detectives later executed a search warrant at Toukonen's classroom and his vehicle on the school campus and did not turn up any additional narcotics. An investigation continues.
