Lee County drivers shocked as gas prices eclipse $5 at station on Palm Beach Blvd

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Drivers in Lee County are expressing shock and frustration over gas prices at a Mobil station on Palm Beach Boulevard, where regular unleaded is priced at $5.49 per gallon, with an additional charge for credit card payments.

"What the [expletive]! My honest reaction was, what the [expletive]," Takia Atkins said.

"My reaction pulling up here was $5.89 for super... oh my god," Stephanie Patrick said.

Vicki Neville shared her decision not to fill up, saying, "I was going to top off as we stopped here for the girls to use the restroom... $5.49. I'm not stopping off for that."

Michael Carter expressed his frustration, saying, "It's horrible. No one should be paying those types of prices."

A Gulf Coast News viewer emailed about the high prices, prompting a visit to the station to confirm the cost.

"I honestly need my money, and I would rather put my $45 somewhere where I would get what I thought I was going to get," Atkins added.

Other drivers voiced their frustrations about rising gas prices.

"Yeah, I think it's ridiculous. You know, I'm someone who happily voted for Trump three times, and I feel betrayed," Sean Davis said.

Neville commented on the broader impact of global events, saying, "So you know, before this war started, we didn't have this issue. I mean, we had high enough prices the way it was, but this is just making it worse. Somebody in our top government is not working for our concerns."

Cantrell McGee shared his perspective on the rising cost of living. "Definitely doesn't make me want to go outside of my, at this time, because, you know, everything is going up from your groceries to just your basic everyday," he said.

Atkins said she learned her lesson after discovering a gas station down the street with prices $1 lower.

"I normally would go over there, but I'm about to get on the road, so I was just kind of rushing. Okay. Don't rush. I'm sorry, but don't rush. That's my advice to other people to look at the cost because it's not worth it," she said.

Management at the gas station has not yet responded to inquiries about the high prices.
