Marco Island police seek to identify suspects in home burglary investigation

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. —

The Marco Island Police Department hopes these photos will lead them to a clear picture of who they're searching for.

Two people broke into someone's home on May 3 in the 400 block of Capri Court and the 1600 block of Winterberry Drive, police said.

The homeowners told Gulf Coast News they were asleep when this happened.

Police say it's an uncommon crime on the island, as burglaries like this happen only about twice a year.

"This is our second one this year. So it's quite alarming when that happens," said Dave Ennis with the Marco Island Police Department.

Marco Island police posted the photo of the two suspects online, hoping to get more answers.

"We put that out on social media, and we have received several tips from people possibly identifying a person of interest," said Ennis.

Why was this house chosen? That's still the question on everyone's mind.

"It's terrible, but how did they break in? Did they break the glass and get in the door, or was the door open and they just walked in because they thought it was safe?" asked neighbor Jim Fogarty.

"It appears that they entered through the second-floor sliding glass door. There was an exterior stairwell that they were able to access. The upstairs, and somehow get into that door. I don't know if it was locked or unlocked at the time," said Ennis.

Police are encouraging you to make a nightly routine, because simple habits can help stop someone from entering your home.

"Make sure that they lock their doors, their windows, their lanai doors, their gates. They have exterior lighting on, and their doors are locked to their vehicles as well," said Ennis.
