Several Lehigh Acres neighborhoods under boil water notice

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

Several neighborhoods in Lehigh Acres are under a precautionary boil water notice after a water main break, according to a release from the Florida Governmental Utility Authority.

FGUA said in their release that the outage was caused by a water main break at 1002 East 3rd Street. They say it resulted in low water pressure and temporary interruption of water service to affected customers, including Lehigh Elementary School.

Water to Lehigh Elementary was cut off for a couple of hours, according to the School District of Lee County's director of communications, marketing and public relations Rob Spicker.

Parents of students at Lehigh Elementary received this email from the school on the boil water notice:

Good Afternoon Lehigh Elementary families,

Due to a broken water main near campus, our school has been placed under a boil water notice. To ensure water safety for our students, we took the following actions today and will continue these actions until the boil order is lifted:

• Bottled waters were provided today and will be delivered for students and staff if needed tomorrow.
• Hand sanitizer will be made available.
• Signage will be posted indicating that water should not be consumed.
• School cafeteria staff will follow appropriate boil notice procedures to ensure food is safe for consumption.
• All meals will be served, as usual.

In addition, you may send your child to school with additional water bottles and hand sanitizer. We will let you know when the boil order has been lifted.

During the advisory, FGUA says it encourages customers to follow United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and bring water used for drinking or cooking to a rolling boil for one minute before use. Bottled water may also be used.

The notice will remain in effect until water quality testing confirms the water is safe for consumption, FGUA says.
