Florida Gulf Coast University among schools impacted by Canvas hack

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—Florida Gulf Coast University is one of the educational institutions locked out of Canvas after hackers allegedly took control of the learning management platform's login page.

In an internal message sent to students and employees, FGCU stated the institution is aware of the outage and is working to determine whether any student, faculty or staff information was stolen. The university has confirmed the breach is not due to vulnerabilities in the FGCU security system.

The university said it will continue to share updates as additional information becomes available.

Instructure, the global educational technology company that operates Canvas, recently experienced a cybersecurity incident that gave unauthorized access to private client data, according to the university message. WINK News has reached out to Instructure for more information.
