A plane headed to Germany had to turn around less than thirty minutes after takeoff from Southwest Florida International Airport due to smoke development inside the plane, according to the airline.
A representative with Discover Airlines said the plane was headed to Frankfurt, Germany from RSW when smoke developed in the cabin and cockpit.
According to FlightAware, the plane took off from RSW at 7:37 p.m. and landed back at the airport at 7:57 p.m. A representative with Discover Airlines said all passengers and crew were able to exit the plane safely.
Airline representatives said technicians are investigating the cause of the smoke, but initial findings indicate it's related to the plane's air conditioning system. According to the airline, affected passengers will be rebooked on alternative flights.
Discover Airlines representatives said the safety of passengers and crew members is their top priority.
