FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Drivers on Fiddlesticks Boulevard heading north toward Daniels near the Publix will see another traffic shift as a years-long road project moves forward on Monday.
Lee County DOT said traffic is now being moved through a new roundabout to access Three Oaks Parkway Extension and Daniels Parkway. In April, WINK News heard from several frustrated drivers who said lane shifts along Daniels Parkway are causing more than just delays; they're putting drivers at risk.
This is all part of the Three Oaks Parkway Extension project, designed to connect Alico Road to Daniels Parkway and handle growth along this busy area. The project also includes widening Daniels Parkway from six to eight lanes, adding turn lanes, a new traffic signal, sidewalks and bike lanes. But for drivers used to the old traffic patterns, the constant changes have been an adjustment.
"I think there's a number of drivers that are really kind of confused," said Jim Quain, a driver.
"It's because everybody's used to a certain pattern. And this is such a popular road, most people use this road. They're used to it, and all of a sudden it's all changing," said Dave Cappuccilli, a driver.
The project is expected to continue through the spring of 2028.
