Man receives five life sentences for deadly 2024 crash in Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

A Moore Haven man was sentenced Monday to five life sentences in a vehicular homicide case where two people were killed in a 2024 crash on State Road 82 and Sunshine Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

According to the State Attorney's Office, Jimmy Randall Roberts Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for each count he was convicted of in March after a trial in Lee County. He was sentenced on two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of reckless driving with serious bodily injury and one count of driving while license suspended as a habitual traffic offender.

Roberts was facing between 22 years in prison and life on each count, and the prosecutors asked for the maximum, which was life on each count.

The crash happened on May 25, 2024, just after 10:30 p.m. Roberts Jr. was driving an SUV with five passengers while speeding at 114 mph on SR-82 toward Sunshine Boulevard. He then crashed into a car, making a left onto Sunshine Boulevard, killing the driver, a young woman. A passenger in Roberts' SUV was also killed.

Roberts and the other passengers in the SUV were seriously injured in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol's Traffic Homicide Unit investigated the crash, which led to the arrest of Roberts.
