Survey shows 1-in-4 Floridians aren't prepared for 2026 hurricane season

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A new survey conducted by AAA shows nearly one in four Floridians is not prepared for this year's hurricane season.

According to the survey, 23% of Floridians have not made any advance preparations for hurricane season this year. Data also shows 54% of Floridians say they only make preparations if a hurricane is already approaching the area.

Despite the lack of preparation, survey data show that one in five Floridians is more concerned about this year's hurricane season than last year's.

For those who have prepared, data shows 44% purchased emergency supplies and 40% stocked up on extra food and water. However, only 26% reviewed their insurance coverage, and only 14% reviewed their evacuation routes.

Experts say now is the time to review insurance coverage to make sure there are no gaps. Residents are also reminded to review evacuation routes and to know where to go and how to get there.
