USPS may allow mailing of handguns for the first time in nearly a century

The U.S. Postal Service is considering a rule change that could allow law-abiding gun owners to mail handguns for the first time in nearly 100 years.

A proposed rule, backed by the Trump administration, would permit pistols and revolvers to be shipped through the mail.

Gun safety groups have warned that the change could fuel illegal gun trafficking.

Supporters, including the NRA, have called the proposal a victory for lawful gun owners.

The Postal Service said it is reviewing public comments before making a final decision.

Current law bans the USPS from mailing concealable firearms unless they are sent by licensed dealers.
