Video shows smoky car meet burnout before teen's arrest in North Fort Myers

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A Cape Coral man was arrested Saturday night after he was accused of doing a burnout in a parking lot on Pine Island Road in North Fort Myers.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office's arrest report, Dillon Christopher Comerota, 19, was arrested in a parking lot off of US-41 after a traffic stop.

Deputies said they witnessed a white Chevrolet Silverado reportedly complete a burnout around a crowd of 50 or more people, and the truck appeared to lose control and almost hit other vehicles and bystanders.

Video footage shows more than a dozen cars gathered at the plaza along Pine Island Road, just before it turns into Bayshore Road. The truck was seen peeling out and leaving a large cloud of white smoke behind.

Michelle Ousley, a North Fort Myers resident, shared her concerns about the event.

"What's my reaction? Just little crazy. And they should not be doing that because it is dangerous. It could have been somebody in the parking lot or a car or a person," Ousley said.

Julie Frakes, another North Fort Myers resident, criticized the wastefulness of the activity.

"I just think about the waste that goes on, you know, when this planet struggles enough as it is, but, you know, wasting gas and wasting tires," Frakes said.

Comerota reportedly left the plaza after he was accused of the burnout before he was arrested, according to the sheriff's office. He is facing charges of stunt driving and was taken to the Lee County Jail.
