Moore Haven man gets 5 life sentences for deadly 2024 Lehigh Acres crash

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—Jimmy Randall Roberts Jr., of Moore Haven, was sentenced to five life sentences this afternoon in a vehicular homicide case.

Roberts was sentenced to life in prison for each count he was convicted of in March following a jury trial in Lee County. He was sentenced on two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of reckless driving with serious bodily injury, and one count of driving while license suspended as a habitual traffic offender.

He was facing between 22 years in prison and life on each count. The prosecutors asked for the maximum, life on each count.

Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano of the State Attorney's Office Homicide Unit and Assistant State Attorney Emma Thomas prosecuted the case.

The crash happened on May 25, 2024, in Lehigh Acres just after 10:30 p.m. Roberts was driving an SUV with five passengers and speeding on State Road 82, driving 114 miles per hour toward Sunshine Boulevard.

He crashed into another car, making a left off SR-82 onto Sunshine. The driver of the car, a young woman, was killed.

A passenger in Roberts' SUV was also killed in the crash. The other passengers in the SUV, including Roberts, suffered critical injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol's Traffic Homicide Unit conducted an extensive investigation leading to Roberts' arrest.
