Bishop Frank Dewane resigns from governance of the Diocese of Venice

VENICE, Fla. (WINK) — Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Frank J. Dewane from the Diocese of Venice and appointed Rev. Emilio Biosca Agüero as his successor.

The announcement was made public on Monday by Monsignor Većeslav Tumir, chargé d' affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in the United States. 

Dewane was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006 as the second Bishop of the Diocese of Venice.

Bishop-elect Biosca is a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of Saint Augustine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He currently serves as pastor of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Washington, D.C.

The Diocese of Venice covers 9,035 square miles in Florida.
