Bishop of Venice Frank J. Dewane resigns; Pope Leo XIV appoints Emilio Biosca Agüero as bishop-elect

VENICE, Fla. —

On Wednesday, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced that Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Franklin J. Dewane from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Venice. In his place the Pope has appointed Emilio Biosca Agüero as Bishop-elect.

Father Biosca was born on Dec. 15, 1964. He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a master's degree in theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1994.

Biosca served as a missionary in Papua New Guinea and Cuba, and has been a pastor in Washington D.C. since 2019.
