Owner pulls dog from lake after suspected alligator attack in North Fort Myers

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A man said his dog was killed by an alligator after he let her out near a lake behind his home in the Tara Woods community in North Fort Myers on Thursday morning.

Haywood Gandy said his dog, named Gia, usually ran around but never went near the water whenever she was out.

Gandy said that after he went back inside to finish getting ready for work at approximately 3 a.m., he heard multiple splashes in the water before he rushed out to try to save Gia from the alligator.

Gulf Coast News reached out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is typically the lead agency for alligator attacks, for more information about the incident.
