The Peace River Wildlife Center in Charlotte County rescued, rehabilitated, and released a brown pelican that was found tangled in fishing line near its education center at Ponce de Leon Park.
The center said the bird had a fishing hook lodged in its right leg area. After receiving wound care, medications, supportive care, and plenty of fish, the pelican was nursed back to health before its release.
Peace River Wildlife Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation and education center located in Punta Gorda Isles, Florida, tucked into the mangroves overlooking Charlotte Harbor.
