A late-night golf cart joyride ended with three people being arrested in connection with a theft spree in the Villas and Cape Coral.
Lee County deputies responded to reports of a trio stealing golf carts and causing damage in the Hideaway neighborhood and golf course clubhouse on May 6.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office said surveillance video showed the suspects racing through the community before leaving in a blue Dodge Hornet and a red Honda Civic.
The suspects were later identified as Gabriel Melendez, 18, Pedro Luis Lopez Rojas Jr., 19, and Angel Josue Guadarrama, 19, the sheriff's office said.
With help from the Cape Coral Police Department, school administrators, and residents, investigators were also able to connect the three suspects to similar golf cart thefts in Cape Coral.
According to the LCSO report, a detective was notified by CCPD that officers were investigating similar golf cart incidents and that Melendez was identified in its case.
According to LCSO, two of the three suspects confessed to the crimes. The trio is facing multiple felony charges, including grand theft, burglary, and criminal mischief.
