Driver caught going 100 mph crashes after fleeing troopers in Gateway

GATEWAY, Fla. (WINK) — A driver faces multiple charges after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in the Gateway area of Lee County.

A WINK News crew arrived at Daniels Parkway and Commerce Lakes Drive late last night and found multiple Florida Highway Patrol cars on scene. A wooden post was snapped off, and debris was scattered along the roadside, signs a car had torn through the area.

Florida Highway Patrol said a trooper saw a Lexus speeding at more than 100 mph on State Road 82 at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver accelerated.

The driver eventually lost control of the car and crashed into the bushes. Troopers identified Yair Alberto Pavon Rivera as the man behind the wheel.

Rivera is facing charges of reckless driving, super speeding and fleeing.
