Collier County wildfire burns 135 acres near Inez Road, 50% contained

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A wildfire burning near Inez Road and Markley Avenue has scorched approximately 135 acres and is 50% contained.

Greater Naples Fire Rescue is working with the Lee County South Strike Team to battle the Inez Fire, according to a press release from the district. The fire is 50% contained at this time.

Separately, another wildfire is burning in Collier County at the Picayune Strand State Forest, according to the Florida Forest Service.

Brush fire trucks were on standby. Crews from Estero were coming down the road.

Greater Naples Fire Rescue issued a voluntary evacuation Monday afternoon, which has since been rescinded. Robert Oleski, a resident, said he wanted to see the fire for himself before making a decision.

"Well, after the voluntary evacuation, I decided before I make a decision I wanna actually try to get some eyes on it," Oleski said.

He said it rained profusely for about 30 minutes while he was on his way back to his house. Firefighters from Estero told him the rain appeared to have extinguished most of the fire.

At least one road is closed.
