Severe storms send debris flying and bring flooding to Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Severe thunderstorms brought wind gusts of up to 50 mph and flooding to Cape Coral, leaving behind damaged roofing, broken fences, and scattered debris near SW 26th Street and Skyline Boulevard.

Residents across Cape Coral expressed concern as the storm intensified. Jeremy Raeposa, a Cape Coral homeowner, said, "It just kind of came through. He said it was unexpected. He saw it come from over there, came through, and he said it was so bad he got nervous and took over."

Raeposa added, "I mean, I'm hoping it doesn't happen again. I mean, there's not much that you can do about Mother Nature. Of course. You know, I mean, it really is just, you know, assess what happened and fix it and move on, unfortunately. So. But, you know, just hopefully it doesn't come again."

The storm caused significant damage, with Raeposa's batting cages blown away from his backyard and a grill pushed into the bottom of a pool. Neighbors saw their patio furniture get picked up by the strong winds and thrown into the canal. Despite the destruction, residents were relieved that no injuries were reported.

Flooding conditions were also observed across the area as the Gulf Coast continued to experience dangerous weather.
