A substitute teacher at Fort Myers Middle Academy was arrested Thursday after she was accused of DUI after officers found her reportedly unconscious inside a running vehicle in the school's pickup line.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department's arrest report, Jennifer Lynn Jenison, 49, was arrested after a school resource officer was notified by a bystander that there was a vehicle in line with the driver reportedly asleep behind the wheel.
The report states that the school resource officer saw a silver Subaru Impreza he recognized from an incident that morning. The staff thought Jenison was having a medical episode but the officer said she was reportedly intoxicated and took her car key until she was sober and could be driven to pick it up, according to the report.
The officer used the key he had and found that Jenison had a spare key. After a few attempts, the officer was able to wake her up, but the report notes that the officer could smell alcohol and that she was accused of having slurred speech and could not balance.
Officers said Jenison may be impaired, so they requested that she participate in field sobriety exercises.
According to the report, Jenison was accused of failing to stand straight up multiple times with her hands by her side as well as stumbling and grabbing officers to stay balanced.
In additional tests, Jenison sat on the front of a patrol car, but officers said she was unable to keep her head still for a full observation. She also was accused of swaying during the exercise as well as having bloodshot, glassy and watery eyes, the report states. She also could not reportedly complete the one-leg stand exercise and sat on the ground instead.
Jenison was arrested and accused of DUI. When officers searched her vehicle, an open bottle of 375 mL of "Skol" Vodka was reportedly found in the passenger seat and was about a quarter empty, according to the report.
Jenison had two prior DUI convictions from Aug. 27, 2015, and Oct. 13, 2021, the police said.
Jenison is facing a charge of DUI - unlawful blood alcohol content - 0.15 or higher or with a person under 18 in a vehicle.
