Punta Gorda police officers use dog cage to capture raccoon

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. —

Over the weekend, Punta Gorda police officers successfully captured a raccoon using a dog cage.

According to the Punta Gorda Police Department, officers responded to an animal complaint about a raccoon behaving strangely.

Kids were getting close to the raccoon and attempting to feed it when officers arrived. The officers then used a resident's dog cage to help catch the raccoon.

PGPD is reminding residents not to attempt to approach or feed wild animals, as they are often sick when they exhibit unusual behavior, such as allowing people to get close to them.
