9-year-old Fort Myers girl turns handmade earrings into business while helping sea turtles

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Like most 9-year-olds, a large part of Naomi Haynam's day is focused on school, but after school, she could teach us all a lesson on selling.

"Once a week, you should post at least a video of yourself because when you post them, eventually they're going to know you have earrings, but they'll forget who sells them," said Naomi.

Two months ago, Naomi decided to sell earrings she makes at home, which she coined "Turtle Treasures by Naomi."

"She's learning advertising, sales, she's also working on cold selling," said her father, Eric, who has watched her dive in headfirst.

"We calculated that I could make twenty pairs of earrings in one hour because it takes me a total of three minutes," said Naomi. "So every day I almost always have a new pair of earrings."

While Naomi excels at entrepreneurship, it's more than just dollars behind her drive.

She donates 10% or more of her profits to sea turtle conservation.

"So I get to help them out and then make fun earrings," said Naomi.

Naomi proves it's never too early to make an impact.

"I hope that she continues to shine super bright," said Eric. "I think she's amazing, and I think she has a huge heart. I'm super proud of her."
