With Memorial Day weekend approaching, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Gisela Bouvier is sharing recipes that combine great taste with essential nutrition for holiday meals.
"Whether we are enjoying Memorial Day weekend, any holiday, or any meal, we can always think about what we can add to the dish or recipe," Bouvier said.
She explained that all of her recipes include dairy for a boost of protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients, and they pair well with fiber-rich foods like fruits and vegetables.
Bouvier also encouraged families to use the long weekend as an opportunity to involve kids in the kitchen.
"A long weekend is the perfect time to get the kids involved in the kitchen," she said.
Bouvier joined Good Morning Gulf Coast to share some recipes. Bouvier said they are designed to be both nourishing and tasty, making holiday eats enjoyable while supporting balanced nutrition.
She advised against avoiding favorite foods during holiday weekends. "We should never deprive ourselves of the foods we love, but creating balanced snacks and meals is key to still feeling good during a holiday weekend," Bouvier said.
