Deadly crash on State Road 70 leaves 2 vehicles in flames

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — A multi-vehicle crash on State Road 70 near NW Florida Avenue left one person dead and several vehicles damaged.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV heading east on State Road 70 moved into the westbound lane to pass a semi-truck and drove directly into the path of an oncoming dump truck.

The front left sides of both vehicles collided and both caught fire after the crash.

A second dump truck traveling behind the first swerved to avoid the wreck, went off the road and overturned. A second SUV, also heading east, then struck the first SUV after the initial crash.

The driver of the first SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
