Lee County man threatened victims with sword before shovel attack, deputies say

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

A Lee County man was arrested on Wednesday after he was accused of chasing two people with a sword and hitting one with a shovel.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to a home in reference to a disturbance. The victims, a man and woman who were staying in a shed behind the residence, reported that the woman went into the main residence to heat up a donut at around 1:50 a.m.

While she was inside the home, she heard a voice she recognized as "Jam," the victim told deputies. The victim and Jam became involved in a verbal confrontation, which resulted in Jam pushing her backward, the report said.

The other victim then entered the home and attempted to prevent Jam from furthering the incident. Jam then armed himself with a sword and began to chase the victims, telling them he was going to kill them and that they would be "body #2 and body #3," the report said.

The victims ran back to the shed and called 911, but Jam had fled the scene once deputies arrived.

Later in the day, at around 6:35 a.m., the woman woke up in the shed to Jam on top of her holding a shovel, the report said. The woman noticed the other victim had an injury to his head. The woman called 911, but when deputies arrived, neither the victims nor Jam was at the scene.

At around 7:17 a.m., the victims called 911 and said they were ready to talk. The victim who had sustained an injury was transported to the hospital. He told deputies that at around 6:35 a.m., he woke up to severe pain coming from his head and instinctively put his hands up, catching a shovel.

The victim then saw Jam holding the shovel, the report said. Jam then told the victim, "I told you I'd be back, [expletive]." Jam then fled the area in a black pickup truck with flames on the side, the report said.

"Jam" was eventually identified to deputies as Jamarius Causey, 33, the report said. Deputies used a license plate reader and found the last location of the truck used by Causey to flee the scene.

Deputies then found that Causey had GPS monitoring through home confinement orders. Deputies responded to Causey's location and arrested him.

He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony battery.
